Police to Put within Limits

The new law on police, which the Interior Ministry is drafting in keeping with the president’s order, will minimize police interference in business affairs, and allow police to begin investigation in respect of entrepreneurs only on the basis of information received by other audit bodies, such as tax or sanitary ones and others, Deputy Interior Minister Sergei Bulavin said at an Interior Ministry meeting yesterday. The concept will be published this summer so that the law could be adopted by the end of the year, an Interior Ministry official said.
This means in particular that the units combating offences on the consumer market will be dissolved. This has already been done in Moscow, the Interior Ministry official said. He said the units for combating tax violations are also in limbo, but it is not clear as yet how exactly they should be restructured.
